Ericsson EPB1/2
The Ericsson EPB1/2 (ROJ208394/2) is an internal expansion and interface board designed for integration within Ericsson Baseband Units (BBU) used in multi-standard mobile networks. As part of the baseband architecture, this module enhances system capacity by providing additional high-speed internal communication channels and coordinating data flow between processing modules. The EPB1/2 plays a critical role in routing internal traffic, supporting synchronization distribution, and ensuring stable interaction between radio modules and baseband processing elements.
Engineered for continuous operation in telecom environments, the board supports GSM, UMTS, LTE, and 5G NR technologies through its integrated optical and electrical pathways. It interfaces with the BBU system backplane and helps maintain the performance and scalability required in multi-sector configurations. The EPB1/2 also supports advanced timing methods, including IEEE 1588v2 and SyncE, to ensure precise synchronization across the radio access network. Powered by the –48 V DC telecom system, the module provides efficient operation and contributes to the overall reliability of Ericsson’s RAN infrastructure.
